This November, Emerald Elite, our very own drill team, took a memorable trip to New York. From master classes to sightseeing, the Emerald Elite drill team was able to experience the city of dreams in just 4 days.
The trip wasn’t only about traveling, it was about growing as a dancer and strengthening the bond between teammates. To learn more about the New York trip I interviewed a three year member of Emerald Elite, Siena Cable, a Junior at LT to hear more about the drill team’s trip.
“[I was] very excited about the trip because we knew something big was coming up. Every four years we have an out-of-state trip. We just didn’t know where. The last team that went, went to Disney, and when we heard we were going to New York, It felt like our theme,” Cable said.
During the trip, the team was able to get closer together than ever before.
“The trip brought our team closer together because we had to stay in a hotel room. For four days, like in really close capacity. We got to bond throughout the crazy streets of New York,” Cable said.
During the trip, the drill team had a surprise waiting for them, Cable describes this experience.
“It was our last full day, and we were going to Times Square and then our director had us pose in front of this random place, she had us wait there for a long time. And then she said, ‘Look behind you.’ And we had a cute little billboard of our team photo and it said ‘EE loves NY’. It was really surprising,” Cable said.
Amidst the fun tourist places, Emerald Elite was able to go to an exclusive experience.
“We attended a master class with one of the Broadway dancers of Wicked that we were going to see that night. And it was really different because she started with a warm-up that was not in our comfort zone. So we kind of had to relax and just have fun, we got to let loose. We also learned about how to fully stretch your body and how to fully take care of your body.”
When asked about her favorite memory in New York outside of dancing, Cable responded:
“Probably when we went to watch the Rockettes. We got to see this amazing show that we’ve always seen on Instagram and TikTok, but we’ve never actually gone to see it in person.”
After reflecting on the trip as a whole, Cable describes the trip in one word.
“Iconic…going to New York is always fun, but going as a drill team and just being able to experience everything, It’s so iconic because we got to see Wicked. And then we also got to see so many iconic things of New York. We got to see the Statue of Liberty, [and] We got to see Ellis Island”.
