On April 16, 2025 LTHS band traveled to Corpus Christi for a three day relaxing trip. During the trip, there were activities for each day. An 8 hour trip to sandy shores to the sound of instruments echoing through new venues. This trip was configured by the band Director “Kelly Wycoff” to Corpus Christi for a chance to decompress from the pressure of marching season? (idk here) spring trip every single year in band, allowing individuals to travel to somewhere sunny and relaxing after a long year of practices, marching contests, and concerts.
On the trip, there were two separate groups going on a few of the buses, including the band along with colorguard individuals. To capture the spirit of the trip, some passed the time from the ride on the way there by playing games, doing homework or taking a nap.
“The bus ride on the way there felt like an eternity,”Sophomore Gabrielle Walls said. “Even when I was talking to my friends to pass the time.”
After the grueling hours, the bus made their final stop to Corpus Christi. The sun shining through the windows and the wind sloshing by the shores in the grainy sand. During the first day, the band directors brought them to a grocery store in order to prepare the kids to have a cooking competition the next day, the winners earning various prizes like trophies for the best food served, best dressed, etc.
“While they let us shop, it felt very crowded throughout the store,” Walls said. “But it was nice seeing everyone in their own world, minding their own business.”
On the second day, the cooking competition was aired. Many of the individuals in the rooms had separate themes, in order to win the hearts from the preparation. (idk what to say in that last sentence) In one of the rooms, were 4 sophomores consisting of Kanade Kagawa, Hiedi Simons, Shiloh Kim, and Elise Nelson. Inspired by the movie “Ratatouille” they all dressed up as rats and one as a chef.
“I felt very silly with a rat costume on,” Sophomore Kanade Kagawa said. “At the same time, memories like this are once in a lifetime opportunities to be close together as we are now.”
On saturday, the girls packed up to in order to go back to LTHS and return to their normal school day lives, the trip refreshing into their memories.
“The trip overall was refreshing and relaxing, i couldnt have never asked for a better band trip other than this.” Kagawa said.
On Sunday, the last day out of three came by. It was time for the band kids to go home and rest. Even though it was short, Corpus Christi was more than just a getaway, it was an event where many grew closer together as a band, experienced new places, and made memories that will stick for awhile. The 2025 spring band trip wasn’t merely a vacation, but rather the highlight of their year be remembered as a highlight of their year.
